Abstract

ICLHE (Integrating Content and Language in Higher Education) is an association concerned with the design, implementation, assessment and evaluation of teaching and learning in universities through an additional language. This reflects the transformative change in higher education stemming from globalization pressures on HEI and their socio-economic context. Delivering higher education programmes through additional languages has effects not only on those directly concerned, teachers and students, but also on the HEI and more widely on society. As the current chair of ICLHE, I link the aims of ICLHE to both internationalization processes and the roles of language and content teachers. I draw attention to some of the areas of impact as shown in recent research.
